What Highlight BDS knows about you

As little as possible. Here is everything the script sends, what is kept, and how to switch it off.

What stays on your device

The pages you read, the words on them and the links on them are checked against the list inside your browser. None of it is sent anywhere.

Your settings, the levels you turn on, the sites you turn it off for and your own additions are kept in Tampermonkey's storage on your device.

What the script sends, and when

Once a week the script asks this service for the latest list.

While “Anonymous usage counts” is on (it is on when you install), the same request also carries three things:

  1. a random install code, made once by the script and based on nothing about you or your device;
  2. your browser's language setting, for example en-GB;
  3. the script's type and version, for example userscript/1.4.0.

What we keep

For each request, the service looks up the country it came from, then discards the IP address. The address is never written to our database or our logs.

For each install code we keep the first and last week it was seen, and its latest country, language and version. For each week we keep two numbers: how many devices were active and how many were new.

We count devices, not people, because your privacy matters to us.

Switching the counts off

Open the script's settings, go to the List tab and turn off “Anonymous usage counts”. The weekly check then sends none of the three items, nothing is counted, and the list still updates.
